Amyre Barker

Director of Food Justice

I’m a Michigander by birth but a Washingtonian in my heart.  My greatest inspiration is my grandmother.  One of my most favorite activities is grocery shopping (biking is a close second).  I grew up eating fresh veggies from the garden behind my grandmother’s garage and applesauce made from her trees.  On school breaks, I served as my granny’s co-pilot while she delivered Meals on Wheels.  Now, in addition to a love for cooking with great ingredients, I’m passionate about helping others access healthy food.  By day, I’m a civil servant engaged in important, secret activities.  By night, I stop pretending to be serious and trade slacks for yoga pants and gardening catalogs.
